Gabons army chiefs in the early hoours of Wednesday in a national television broacast declared a military take over from civilian rule following the declaration of President Ali Bongos third term victory by the states electoral body. The announcement on Gabons 24 channel came shortly after the Gabonese Elections Centre declared that Mr Ondimba, who has been in power for 14 years, had won a third term in elections held on Saturday. The officers said they were closing Gabon's borders until further notice and dissolving state institutions. Speaking further the army chief said "We have decided to defend peace by putting an end to the current regime," said one of the officer. He said he was speaking on behalf of the "Committee for the Transition and Restoration of Institutions". Nigeria's Minister of Finance and Co-ordinating Minister for the Economy Wale Edun says Nigeria will no longer borrow from local or international organizations following the removal of subsidy on petrol and the harmonization of the country's exchange rate. The minister made this known at the end of the inuagural meeting of the Feederal Exeutive Council chaired by President Bola Tinubu on Monday. According to him the gains from the subisdy removal would be put back into various sectors of the economy aimed at boosting governments revenue as well as improving the business environment for local and foreign investmennts. According to him government has been able to provide palliatives from the increased revenue from subsidy removal to cushion its effect on a short, medium and long term basis.
