Gabons military seize power in fresh coup, denounce elections results (VIDEO)

Gabons army chiefs in the early hoours of Wednesday in a national television broacast declared a military take over from civilian rule following the declaration of President Ali Bongos third term victory by the states electoral body.  The announcement on Gabons 24 channel came shortly after the Gabonese Elections Centre declared that Mr Ondimba, who has been in power for 14 years, had won a third term in elections held on Saturday. The officers said they were closing Gabon's borders until further notice and dissolving state institutions. Speaking further the army chief said "We have decided to defend peace by putting an end to the current regime," said one of the officer. He said he was speaking on behalf of the "Committee for the Transition and Restoration of Institutions". FG won't borrow again to develop Nigeria's economy says Finance Mnister Wale Edun

Nigeria's Minister of Finance and Co-ordinating Minister for the Economy Wale Edun says Nigeria will no longer borrow from local or international organizations following the removal of subsidy on petrol and the harmonization of the country's exchange rate. The minister made this known at the end of the inuagural meeting of the Feederal Exeutive Council chaired by President Bola Tinubu on Monday. According to him the gains from the subisdy removal would be put back into various sectors of the economy aimed at boosting governments revenue as well as improving the business environment for local and foreign investmennts.  According to him government has been able to provide palliatives from the increased revenue from subsidy removal to cushion its effect on a short, medium and long term basis. Bayelsans engage in free for all as residents invade warehouse, loot paliiatives

Residents of Bayelsa state engaged in a free for all scavenge hunt as they broke into a warehouse used by the sstate government to store palliatives from the Federal govrnment to cushion the effects of flood in the state. The warehouse reports gathered blongs to the Senator representing Bayelsa Central Senatorial District Konbowei Benson located along Isaac Boro Expressway in the state.  Angered by the slow distribution of palliatives over the economc hardship felt by the people following the impact of subsidy removal, residents of the state took matters into their hands enagaging in a free for all by invading the warehouse and carting away relief items. NYSC Saga: Nigeria's Minister of Culture Musawa Speaks- Says "She Hasn't Broken Any Law"!

Nigeria's Minister of Art, Culture and Creative Economy Hannatu Musawa has broken her silence over what she called media attacks that trailed her Ministerial apppointment by President Bola Tinubu despite controversies surrounding the status of her NYSC service. The Minister while thanking President Tinubu for finding her worthy and for giving her the opportunity to serve the country as one of his Ministers, she admitted that it is true she is currently on the NYSC national service which she began eight months ago as a matter of duty and devotion to her country, having been unable to complete the scheme since she was first mobilised in 2001. Tinubu says he is holding ECOWAS back from a military invasion in Niger

Preident Bola Tinubu, Nigeria's President and chairman of ECOWAS Nigeria's Presidet Bola Tinubu says despite mounting pressure from leadership to deloy miliar troops in Nigeria, he is doing everythng possibe to ensure there is eaeful resoution towards restoring constitutional and democratic order in Niger. The Nigerian leader who is also the Chairman of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) made this known when he played host to Islamic Clerics known Ulama led by their leader Sheikh Bala at the Presidential Villla in Abuja on Thursda.  This was the second meeting between the President and the Islamic leaders. Breaking News: India launches first successful Spaceflight Mission to SouthPole of the Moon

India has become the first nation to land a spacecraft near the Moon's south pole on Wednesday, an historic feet for the worlds most populous nation and its ambitious space programme. The Chandrayaan-3 which means "Mooncraft" touched down at 6:04pm India-time (1234 GMT) as mission control technicians cheered widly and embraced their colleagues in a joyous celebration.  This was India's second attempt at landing a spacecraft on the moon and it comes a week after Russia's Luna-25 mission failed. Indians across the country were glued to their television screens to watch the spacecrafts landing.  India's Prime-Minister Narendra Mordi described the moment as victory cry for a new India. According to him India's successful mission to the moon is not for India alone, its success belomgs to all of humnity".

The newly sworn in minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, on Monday resumed office barely two hours after he was inaugurated to work in President Bola Tinubu’s cabinet. The minister who resumed offic after taking the oath administered to him by the Chief Justice of Nigeria Justice Olukayode Ariwoola announced that he would not allow illegal buildings in Abuja to remain standing as the FCT minister. Breaking News: President Tinubu redeploys Ministers 24 hrs to Inauguration

Nigeria's President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Sunday redeployed 4 ministers to new ministries less than 24 hrs to their inaguration scheduled to take place at the Presidential Villa on Monday in Abuja. In a statement released by the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the President Ajuri Ngelale, former Governor of Osun State and minister-designate, Adegboyega Oyetola, from the Ministry of Transportation to the Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy.   Another Minister Designate Abubakar Momoh was moved from the Federal Ministry of Youth to the Ministry of Niger Delta Development while the Federal Ministry of Youth wooud be reassigned to another Minister-Designate.   The President also redeployed Bunmi Tuni-Ojo from the Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy to the Ministry of Interior while Sa'idu Alkali is redeployed to the Ministry of Transportation.

There was mild drama at the Federal High Court in Lagos as Lawyers of embattled former CBN governor Godwin Emefiele tried to prevent journalists from capturing what they described as private moments of the erstwhile CBN in court. Journalists who were in court for the days proceedings tried to take shots of the former apex bank chief but was being shielded away from the press by his lawyers when he arrived at the court premises.  Emefiele has been in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS) since his arrest after his removal from office by President Bola Tinubu on June 9. the Federal Government withdrew the illegal possession of firearms charge it filed against suspended CBN governor and filed fresh 20 count charges against him. Nigeria's President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has assigned portfolios to his ministers a week after their screening by Nigeria's red chamber the Senate, Former governor of Rivers state Nyesome Wike is to hed the Ministry of the Federal Capital Territory while former Minister of state of Labour and employment Festus Keyamo was assigned ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development.  Others are David Umahi (Works), Adegboyega Oyetola (Transportation), Wale Edun (Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy), Betta Edu (Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation). Tinubu Says No Plan To Increase Fuel Price

Nigeria's President Bola Tinubu says the Federal government has no plans to increase the pump price of petroleum in the country. This was made known to journalists at the Presidential villa by Spokesperson to the President Ajuri Ngelale while responding to the questions raised over the threat of nationwide strike by organized labour.  According to him, “Mr. President and the industry stakeholders who have been widely consulted are convinced, based on information before them, that we can maintain current pricing without reversing our deregulation policy by swiftly cleaning up existing inefficiencies within the midstream and downstream Petroleum sector. This is why there is no increase in prices at this time.”

Wike Visits Ganduje in Abuja Congratulates him on emergence as APC Chairman

The former governor of Rivers State and Minister desgnate Nyesome Wike on Wednesday visited the residence of former Kano governor now National Chairman of the All Progressive Congress Abduallahi Ganduje in Abuja. Although online reports had claimed the meeting of both men could not be unconnected to the likely defection of the former Rivers governor into the APC, the APC in a statement reacting to the reports denied the claims saying the former Rivers governor was at Ganduje's residence to congratulate him on his emergece as the chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC). 

NNPC Says No Plans To Increase Price of Fuel

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company has debunked reports of a likely increase in the price of petrol. Independent oil marketers (IPMAN) had alerted Nigerians to news of a further increase in the pump price of petrol to N680/N720 per litre if the dollar continued to trade between N910 and N950 on the parallel market. Organized labour, the Nigerian Labour Congress had on Monday of a nationwide shutdown if the pump price of petrol was increaseed.  Responding on its twitter handle, the retail arm of the NNPCL urged Nigerians to disregard speculations about any further increase in the pump price of petrol 

ECOWAS military chiefs to meet in Ghana over Niger Coup

Defence chiefs of the Economic Community of West African states will this week meet in Ghana to review the ongoing situation in Niger following the military coup that saw the oster of Nigers President Mohammed Bazoum ousted from office. The meeting which was ealier scheduled to take place last Saturday was postponed and is now scheduled to hold on Thursay and Friday in Accra, Ghana this week.  The meeting of the military chiefs is coming after leaders of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) had approved the deployment of a standby military force to restore democratic and constituional order in Niger last week. Ousted President Mohammed Bazoum is currently being held by the junta after being removed from office on July 26. Ecowas leaders had given the military one week to restore power to Bazoum which the coupists failed to comply with. Nigerian Government files fresh 20 count charges against former CBN Governor Godwin Emefiele

  The Federal government of Nigeria has filed fresh charges against embattled former central bank governor Mr Godwin Emefiele. The fresh charges were instituted against the former cbn governor on Tuesday August 15 2023. This was made known to journalists in Abuja by the Directoor of Public Prosecutions at the Ministry of Justice, Federal Ministry of Justice, Mohammed Bakodo Abubakar. Abubakar said the fresh charges – with 20 counts – were filed at the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court. The former cbn governor was accused of “conferring unlawful advantages” among other charges listed against him. The Federal government had earlier applied to withdraw the “illegal possession of firearms” case it previously filed against Godwin Emefiele at the Federal High Court sitting in Lagos. Abubakar, who made the application orally, informed the judge, Nicholas Oweibo that the application followed the result of further investigations.
